- National Director, Campaign for the Protection of Rural England (1981-87).
- Chair, Greenpeace UK (1998-2004); Trustee, Greenpeace International.
- Director, Centre for the Study of Environmental Change, Lancaster University (1990-2004).
- Chair of advisory board, Institute for the Study of Welsh Estates, Bangor University (2014-present).
- Co-founder/chair of Siop Mechell, Llanfechell’s community café & hub (2014-present).
